Coffee Festival & Unitech Students

CRMF does much more than just technical support which is equally as vital to the building of God’s kingdom. Daily we are witnesses to all those we serve and to those in the communities in which we live. We recently were involved in two big events that although took a lot of time and effort, showed us clearly how important our role in the community is.

The Goroka Coffee Festival occurred from the 8th to the 10th of May. This festival is a little like an agricultural show or field day. Some coffee growers and other agricultural groups as well as local businesses and government bodies come to the show and set up stands which advertise what
they do or sell. CRMF has been part of this festival for a number of years now and this year was no exception. A Story Board was made, with pictures of all our staff and what they do. Something that entertains the many school children that attend the festival is the VHF radio we set up for them to talk to us on.
The children enjoy using the radio usually for the first time.

They ask questions of those back at the workshop such as: “what does CRMF do?” or “what do you do and do you like your work?”. Probably more importantly we have Christian tracts to hand out to anyone who shows some interest. After having a walk around myself I noticed that CRMF was the only mission represented at the festival, we were glad we could do this and be a witness for the Lord in our local community.

On the Friday of the festival our technicians were all very busy at the workshop preparing for the arrival of approximately 40 technical students from Lae Unitech. The students arrived mid morning and they spent a few hours with us. Our technicians walked all the students through the workshop explaining to them what it is we do at CRMF, and then afterwards we taught them a lot
about antennas and the propagation of radio signals, this being a practical part of their technical studies that we were asked to help with.

Again, although this was a time consuming activity we were happy to show the students around not just because of the radios but to tell them about Christ in our own lives, and why CRMF exists.
As well as being a technical mission, which is vital to the people of PNG, we are a Christian mission witnessing to those we come across in our community. Please pray that the Lord will give us many opportunities to do this.
